On March 4, an activity was carried out by the ad hoc group for the defense of the human rights of Venezuelans in Iceland, in front of the doors of the parliament in Iceland, related to the current Venezuelan situation.
This staging simulates this situation and clarifies why many Venezuelans migrated and cannot return to Venezuela.
There is fear among the Venezuelan population abroad as a result of the situation itself and the events that have been occurring recently in the world.
Some of the events have been the murder of the military man asylum in Chile Ronald Ojeda, the arbitrary detention of the human rights activist Rocio San Miguel, as well as the detention of several political activists, trade unionists, soldiers, journalists; among others, even making a person disappear for the sole reason of taking a photo and publishing it on the networks.
Venezuela is a rich Western country with democratic, Christian, workers and freedom principles that has been kidnapped by a group of gangsters who seized power and turned it into a narco state.
The democratic governments of the world, defenders of human rights, are urged not to be complicit in such crimes. And not lend itself to exacerbating the fears of Venezuelans inside and outside their territories.
We are a group of activists brought together by the urgent necessity to establish formal and direct channels of communication with both governmental and non-governmental entities in Iceland, as well as with the individuals residing in designated shelter spaces. Our primary objective is to offer support and solutions to Venezuelan citizens who are unable or unwilling to return to their homeland, ensuring their well-being and integration into Icelandic society. Through collaborative efforts, we aim to devise comprehensive strategies for the integration of Venezuelans into the icelandic community.
